BROAD BEANS

ooohhh its frosty out there...

I have just been out and set some broad beans in troughs -I have left it until December as I set some in November and the mouse had them away lol... hopefully by now they should be tucked away for winter (although I have put the troughs on the table outside so it will take them longer to find them -hopefully)

I have set :-

  1. Aguadulce

  2. Jubilee Hysor
I did Aguadulce this year -but didn't set them until spring ..luckily I beat the dreaded black fly by covering with a mosquito panel from an old broken gazebo! They are brilliant -nice and big for tucking in.... I'm planning on putting the troughs by the patio doors this time as they smellt gorgeous -like jasmine or orange blossom!

If the ones I have just set don't all make it then I will set some more in January... Save all your toilet roll tubes -they make great root trainers, simply 3/4 fill with compost, pop the bean in and cover with more compost, then stand up in a nice sturdy container and keep moist.

I do them on the spare bedroom window sill, by watering from the bottom you encourage the roots to dig down and get nice strong plants. Plus, when it comes to planting out you plant the whole tube -which saves disturbing the roots.

Again, I will go into more detail and do photos when the season starts

Hi

ME AGAIN....just another thought....I see that you have made the same decision as I have about comments (ie not to check them out first before they "post"). I havent found that to be a problem. I will just leave things as is in that respect unless I find commenters leaving objectionable ones ever. To date - over a year in Blogland - there has just been a couple of spam comments that I have had to delete. So - you're okay to leave things as is on that front. You'll soon see if leaving comments "open" the same way I have is a problem.

Even with leaving comments "open" in this way - there is the mechanism to delete any unwanted comments no problem should you feel the need at any point. You will - almost certainly - get a bit of spam somewheres along the line - but it aint a problem (just take it as a compliment - you will obviously have received a noticeable number of "hits" for your blog to have come to spammers' attention) - I just deleted those coupla comments and 'twas sorted.

Could be that you need to set the time at G.M. - rather than G.M. +1 hour. (clocks going back/forth in Britain). Hm....come to think of it - I better check my blog times -because of clock having gone back.

NB The times on all things on your blog - your posts and our comments - will be the same - so its just one time set for both.
