Well, Hubby managed to nip out (inbetween the rain) and get the compost into the big tubs for me... and I got the fruit shrubs shoved in -Im not expecting them to do much this year as I have stuck them all one big tub -about the size of a baby bath but much deeper, but they will be okay for now. Im hoping to pick up a rhubarb next weekend when I go for more compost, they have them advertised for €1.49 and that will be going in a large tub on its own until we move back to our permenat address then I can put it in the garden.
Today the first leek and celery seeds have started to break the surface -another experiment as I haven't tried these before, more tomatoes have been re-set so that they are further down in the compost and the peppers are oh so slowly popping through ...
ohhh and the sweetcorn are coming on nicely -now I realise that they don't germinate like most other seedlings..... guess who was expecting seed leaves?*insert embarassed face* lol -well I haven't grown them before

Hiya Mrs Mc
How do sweetcorn germinate ??
I have planted some too and am having one last attempt at a sweet potato !!
Shaz
Hi there Shaz..
Im just about to update the blog and will add pictures -
The sweet corn comes through looking like when an onion spruts -a long thin shoot -they are now starting to unfurl ;-) I was most confuddled to start with lol -I was expecting seed leave like most other things!!!
My sweet potato has had 8 slips taken off now and more on their way ...I have transfered them to tubs in the window to get them going until the dustbins of compost have warmed up enough -so fingers crossed..the roots are really going for it now -I put them in a clear tub on purpose so I could keep an eye on them...
hope you get them to work as they are quite expensive to buy aren't they!
I will updat my blog and put the pics in so you can see what the corn look like...
take care
