THE ARCHES ARE GOING UP

Well, I have had hubby outside today -he is head of "humping n dumping".... anything that needs building, moving or lifting he does for me -I do the interesting bit -all the planting n tending!! So today I was chief supervisor lol.

So he has dug the leaves into the compost in the old tubs and moved some into three of the long black tubs, and built 2 of the arches and put them in place. I was hoping to get 2 side by side but it won't happen -so I am only going to fit 4 in along the soak away path that runs across the garden... which means I need to find space for the other 5 eeeeek. They may end up running along the edge of the patio -but I have to be careful not to create too much shade!! Failing that I may run them along the fence between us and 1 of the neighbours -I can still strim around them and it will give us a bit more privacy too.
After getting hubby to build those two in the soggy weather we have at the moment -I then realised that the peas I want to set only actually grow to about 2 1/2ft -so won't be going in those tubs now -but we will keep that quiet ;-).
Tomorrow I will nip out (weather permitting) and set the Douce Proence peas -I'm a little late -but it should reduce the chance of the mice fetching them!

I see that little low mini-greenhouse. Now I really must unpack one I got a bit back and get it together. Do you find it very effective?

They are really good for hardening off the seedlings and this year I had melons in one -that died when I had to go back to the UK for 3 weeks smack bang in the middle of summer !! and I did sweet potatoes in crates in the other one -again It was a 1st attempt and they didn't swell much as they didn't get watered whilst I was away.. but Im doing them again next year -starting earlier this time as they need a lot of warm days ... but I was amazed how many tubers I got from growing slips off a supermarket sweet potato... this year they WILL do better lol
I was amazed how big those tents were when they were put up... they would be great for any brassicas grown in tubs etc, as the netting layer will keep the rotten butterfly out...so I migh have another go at them this year ...
